Motor oil is a necessary fluid for your engine. As the oil moves through the vehicle’s system, it lubricates the different moving parts, which helps them operate with less friction. An oil change is a fairly simple task when performed by professional service technicians. It only takes around 30 minutes to change the oil in your vehicle. The service technician will use a lift with your vehicle, making it easier to access the drain where the old oil will be removed and the old filter replaced with a new one. The filter traps dust and debris that would otherwise get in your engine. After replacing the filter, new oil will be added to your engine.
The three types of motor oil:
Conventional motor oil is the best-known type, which is made from crude oil combined with different additives.
Synthetic motor oil is a newer type of oil developed from man-made ingredients. This type of oil comes in full synthetic or a synthetic blend and lasts longer than conventional oil while providing better protection for your engine.
High mileage motor oil is designed for vehicles with over 75,000 miles because it does a better job of protecting the engine with special additives. You can find this type of oil in either conventional or synthetic.
Conventional oil must be replaced about every 3000 miles. Synthetic oil lasts longer and only needs to be changed about 5000 miles or even longer, depending on the model. If a vehicle is not driven very often, it still needs regular oil changes. Most manufacturers recommend having the oil changed at least once every six months. Newer models of vehicles often have a light on the dashboard that tells you when your oil needs to be changed. You can also look at the oil on the dipstick and see if it is dirty.
